Enlargement of the spleen. Causes include portal hypertension, infections (such as leishmaniasis), autoimmune diseases, and blood disorders (lymphomas, leukemias, and myeloproliferative disorders). It is frequently associated with anemia, leukopenia, and/or thrombocytopenia. Splenomegaly may cause a sense of discomfort in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen, particularly after eating.
