Acinetobacter

[Gr. akinētos, immovable, + bacter(ium) ]
A genus of gram-negative, aerobic coccobacilli that is an increasingly important cause of serious infections, esp. in hospitalized patients. It is commonly found in water, soil, and on the skin of healthy humans.
