[Sir Thomas Barlow, Brit. physician, 1845-1945] Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) deficiency in infancy, also known as infantile scurvy. It occurs in both breast-fed and bottle-fed babies (usually between 6 and 12 months) who fail to receive adequate supplements of vitamin C. SEE: infantile scurvy.
