A genus of gram-positive, aerobic, nonmotile bacilli of the family Corynebacteriaceae. Some are part of normal skin flora; others are pathogens for domestic animals, birds, and reptiles.

Corynebacterium diphtheriae

The causative agent of diphtheria in humans.
