A genus of parasitic tapeworms belonging to the class Cestoda, phylum Platyhelminthes. They are elongated ribbon-like worms consisting of a scolex, usually with suckers and perhaps hooks, and a chain of segments (proglottids). Adults live as intestinal parasites of vertebrates; larvae parasitize both vertebrates and invertebrates, which are intermediate hosts.
