Bordetella

[From Jules Jean Baptiste Vincent Bordet, Belgian immunologist and microbiologist, 1870- 1961]
A genus of hemolytic gram-negative coccobacilli of the family Alcaligenaceae. Some species are parasitic and pathogenic in warm-blooded animals, including humans.
Bordetella bronchiseptica
A species that causes respiratory infections that primarily infect nonhuman mammals.
Bordetella parapertussis
A species that causes a slightly milder whooping cough than that caused by B. pertussis.
Bordetella pertussis
A species that causes whooping cough.
