2. The pituitary gland.
An endocrine gland lying in the sella turcica of the sphenoid bone. It consists of two portions, the adenohypophysis (anterior lobe) and the neurohypophysis (posterior lobe), which are attached to the hypothalamus of the brain by the infundibulum.
