Any of a group of RNA viruses that are a source of zoonotic infections throughout the world.
Some species in the group (e.g., Guanarito, Junin, Machupo, and Sabia virus) cause hemorrhagic fevers. Others (e.g., lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus) cause aseptic meningitis.
