Absence of or deficiency in secretion of saliva.
The condition may be caused by disease (mumps, typhoid fever), dehydration, drugs, radiation therapy to the salivary glands, old age, obstruction of salivary ducts, or Sjögren's syndrome, in which there is deficient function of lacrimal, salivary, and other glands.
